Planning To Fail? Daily Action Plan for Internet Marketing Success
As a beginning entrepreneur, you need to be very careful about how you spend your time. Setting action goals and a daily schedule is vitally important to achieve internet marketing success. Yet many, if not most fail to accomplish this very important step.
Some of you may know that my business online deals primarily with contextual marketing where I create niche websites (Virtual Real Estate – a la John Reese) and products (ebooks mostly) where I promote these sites through "traditional SEO" (with an emphasis on article marketing) and social media marketing (using web 2.0 to promote my websites).
I have received a handful of questions over the past couple of months in regards to my "process". So, to give you an idea of how I structure my days, allow me to just give you guys an example of a "typical" week (particularly as I was starting out).
Before I begin, I should mention that I generally invest about 2 – 4 hours per day, 5 to 6 days per week on my business (some weeks more, some weeks less). And since I tend to be a bit scatter brained I generally break my business up into 2 parts (this allows me to keep things simple and focus on the task at hand):
1. Research and Building Framework for my niche websites
2. Marketing / Promotion of my websites through article marketing / social media marketing (web 2.0 – to learn more about this, I highly recommend Jack Humphrey’s Authority Black Book)
—–
Since i am a contextual marketer, I’ll use this as my example… so, if I were to create a new niche site this week I would break up my week like this:
Day 1 – Create Framework
Includes Niche Research, Competition / Keyword Research & Analysis.
Loading the website structure, which in my case is installing Wordpress and related plug-ins.
If I have time left over, I will start to gather content ideas for my site (and/or write content).
Time: 2 – 5 hours
Day 2 – Create and Publish Content To Website
Finish the creation of at least 5 – 15 pages (preferably 15 – 30 pages) and publish them to my site (5 to 10 posts at a time). If there’s more time, I’ll write future content and use the "future posting feature" in Wordpress. I also make sure to tag each post as you publish them.
Time: 3 – 5 hours
Day 3 – Promote the new site
I submit each of the posts to bookmarking sites (I use OnlyWire and/or Auto Social Poster plug-in for this). Also create at least 3 – 5 articles for submission to top tier article directories (EzineArticles / GoArticles / SearchWarp etc.). If I have more time, write more content and also create hubs on Hubpages, lenses on Squidoo etc. with some of the content!
Time: 2 – 3 hours
Days 4 and 5 – Write future content
I always create a total of 20 – 40 additional pages of content (300+ words per article) that I either drip feed to my site (future post) and post to additional Social Media Networks for the next few months.
I also try to initiate other link building strategies, such as submitting the site to seo-friendly link directories, find relevant blogs I can comment on etc. (For more details, check my article on increasing targeted traffic to your website).
Time: 2 – 4 hours each day
Day 6 – Maintenance of your older sites.
Write and load content for drip feeding to my profitable sites (I use a simple software called WP Dripfeeder). I also take the time to grow my network of social media sites for my high traffic sites as well.
This is also generally when I allot time to do more research for future projects.
Note: These days I outsource much of my article writing as well as linking to other sites. Once you start generating some revenue, I recommend you re-invest in your business and do the same. This frees up A LOT of time for more direct income generating activities.
There you have it. That’s pretty much sums up my weekly schedule.

Since my original questions pertained to bum marketing (direct to affiliate article marketing) I’ve also included a schedule I followed during a 90-day case study I did earlier this year, along with a video explaining this below.
So, If I were to do Article (Bum) Marketing for this week’s project my week would be split a bit differently.
Day 1 – Product and Keyword Research
Choose 3 – 10 products, then do the keyword research. I try to limit myself to 3 – 5 products and do a more comprehensive research on keywords and competition.
Time: 2 – 3 hours
Day 2 through 4 – Put the campaigns in motion
Set up pre-sell pages for affiliate products (I almost always do this, generally using my Clickbank Bypass Method to bypass "crap" sales pages on clickbank).
Write a minimum of 3 – 5 articles per product and load them up to EzineArticles / GoArticles / Squidoo etc.
Time: 2 – 4 hours per day
Day 5 and 6 – Review past campaigns.
I check to see which campaigns are studs and which are duds. If profitable, I will write another set of articles (1 – 3 per product) to be syndicated.
To get a more in-depth look at how I set up my schedule for Bum Marketing, check out the video below. The video is a bit dated, as I created it at the beginning of the year when doing a case study on Bum Marketing (Direct to Affiliate Article Marketing) but the information is still very much valid. I apologize in advance for the unrehearsed presentation…

Great post Steven!
How does WP DripFeeder differ from WordPres’s own built in TimeStamp feature where you can add articles at future dates?
Thank you for sharing your week – often successful marketers just say “I work 2 hours a day and earn 6 figures” without any context to what they do. Providing the list of activities that you do each day proves that you really can work those hours and earn a full time income online. Thanks
Chris
Steven,
Thanks for all the great information.
Where can I find the follow up video you mentioned about actually researching and writing the articles?
Thanks Again!
This is awesome planning steven. However planning become very important.
Shouldn’t a plan include some sort of social networking?
