The Number One Secret To Becoming A Successful Entrepreneur
I’m gonna let you in on a secret… the ONE THING that all of the most successful entrepreneurs practice on a regular basis.
…Failing Forward.
“Failing Forward” is actually a term I picked up from an excellent book by the same name by John C. Maxwell (who also wrote an excellent book called “Developing the Leader within You”). So, what the heck does that mean?
In essence, it’s this:
Learn how to fail quickly, learn from your mistakes, get up and try again. And keep failing until you reach your goal …
That’s it!
Yep, failing quickly and often is extremely important for success in just about any endeavor, and it’s particularly true when it comes to building a business.
You’re probably thinking that failure and success are diametrically opposed… well, perhaps. But having studied this a bit, it appears that people who experience massive success the fastest are those that have learned the lessons of Failing Forward.
So if it’s that easy, how come so many people don’t succeed?
You’ve probably heard people talk about the “fear of failure”. You know what I mean… it’s when people stop taking action because they’ve failed (or think they have). In other words, people fall short through fear.
But the truth is, if you are able to take "you" out of the failure, one might find success a lot quicker. In other words, don’t personalize the experience of failure and rather look at it as another outward experience that will teach you.
In his book, John C. Maxwell explains that one should master fear instead of being mastered by it. Here are his words:
“The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure”
The way I understood this is that if you allow your fear of the unknown to influence your decision to take action, then no amount of poor results will lead to success.
Just remember this:
You are in control of your own destiny, no one else.
You hold the keys to your success.
You must believe it and act on it.
