If so, you may find the following findings from a survey polling 1150 local Search engine optimizers being conducted by BrightLocal.com.

This poll looked at quite a few different types of topics. Below I’ve listed the question along with the most common answer given in the poll:

Q: What was your turnover in the last 12 months?
A: 31% of people answered that they make less than $30,000 annually with local SEO.

Q: How many clients handled (personally)
A: 27% answered that they personally handle between 2 – 5 clients personally.

Q: How many clients handled the previous year (personally)?
A: 31% answered ZERO, which means the local SEO industry is attracting a lot of new people.

Q: How many new prospects do you reach out to every month
A: 46% of those polled suggest that they DO NOT actively seek out new prospects.

Q: Lead conversion (converting those prospects to customers)
A: 21% say that they have a 100% conversion rate!

Q: Do they expect growth in the next 12 months
A: 82% answered YES.

Q: Is it getting easier to discuss the benefits of SEO to local business owners?
A: 38% of the local SEOs say “Yes, a bit easier” to convince prospects to do business with them.

Q: How much do you charge for a local SEO campaign?
A: 28% of local SEOs say they charge $100 – $250 for an optimized Google Places campaign.

–

Looking at these answered, there seems to be a lot of opportunities. Particularly for the “Freelance SEO” (or the part-timer).

I do hope that the service given by all of these new individuals getting into SEO will adversely affect the SEO industry.

In any event, if you would like a more detailed overview, you may want to check out the following article at SearchEngineLand.com.

When you learn affiliate marketing, you will inevitably come across niche blogging as a business model and the need for seo for blogging. (SEO = search engine optimization).

This also happens to be one of the topics that I get the most questions about from readers of this blog… (along with the topic of free traffic generation, which goes pretty much hand-in-hand).

So today I’ll start a new series on SEO for blogging (both on-and-off page optimization), and how to promote your blog(s) effectively.

Let me just start with a warning of sorts, there’s a lot of contradictory information when it comes to this stuff out there, and what I’m sharing with you here will be “best practices” as suggested by many Search Optimizers out there.

Alright… with that out of the way…

Let me first address what SEO stands for (just in case you don’t know)…

In a nutshell, search engine optimization is the work we put into a blog (website) to make it rank high in the search engines (like Google) in order to receive traffic “for free” (people often refer to this sort of traffic as “organic traffic”).

And in order to implement it, you will need your own blog (website), current content as well as on-going content (preferably).

There are some ‘best practices’ when it comes to adding content. For one, you should always have a primary keyword phrase in mind for that particular piece of content you’re writing and design it to be as relevant to that keyword as possible.

This by the way does NOT mean that you repeat the keyword unnecessarily throughout the content (where it starts reading weird), which can be seen as “keyword stuffing” (and can have a negative impact on rankings).

Instead, the focus should be on creating premium content that adds value to the blogosphere (or the interwebz… or what not), not just some mass distributed PLR (private label rights) articles offer little to no value.

When this is done while following the proper parameters in terms of SEO, you create a “win-win” situation for yourself.

In the next segment (the first ‘official’ post on SEO for Blogging), I will cover some terms you must get familiar with when starting your journey online.

Talk soon,

The other day I went to do some research on Google and went to look for the “Wonder Wheel”, which has been a trusted friend and adviser over the past year or two (however long it’s been around).

But something really odd happened…

I typed in a random search phrase, went to the “More Search Tools” area to find the Wonder Wheel and… NOTHING! It wasn’t there! What the heck? I looked all over the net and nobody seemed to know where it went. To make a long story short, I made it my ‘mission’ to find out where it went… and I figured it out.

Here’s a quick video I recorded to show you exactly how to get Google Wonder Wheel back:

Anyway, I knew it must have had something to do with the recent change in Google search, from their regular search to the “Google Instant Search”. So, I started looking around and found what I was looking for in the Google Preferences.

All you have to do is turn off Google Instant and save your preferences… that’s it!

Hope this helps,
Steven

Google is doing something weird… not sure if it is an early implementation of some of the Google Caffeine stuff, but…

…earlier today I was cleaning up a ton of keywords that I had done research for last month before sending them off to a couple of my writers. While going through my research I noticed some interesting discrepancies in the Google results. Let me explain.

For instance, in July, the phrase:

‘how to tone your stomach’ – had a traffic volume of 3600 searches (phrase match); All In Title search result of 171; and a phrase match result of 6230.

Today, the results were somewhat different, with a traffic volume of 2900 (which is fine); all in title results of 105,000 (yikes); and a phrase match result of 2,050,000 (double yikes).

What the heck?

I was thinking maybe I did something wrong. So, I went on to another keyword phrase:

‘how to loose stomach fat’ – In July this keyword had a traffic volume of 3600 (again in phrase match); all in title results of 325; and a phrase match search result of 6630.

Today I found this: traffic volume of 2900 (everything is fine); all in title of 328 (still good); phrase match result of 1,630,000 (huh?).

And this wasn’t an isolated instance, it happened to quite a few keywords…

By the way if you don’t know what all this means, don’t worry, just have a look at my keyword research videos here:

Super Simple Blogging – Keyword Research Tutorial

So now I’m wondering if it’s just something wrong in my end of the world or if everybody is starting to see similar results? If so, I think the way we do keyword research will have to change… and start looking at other factors besides phrase match volume and all in title results.

Reader Question: I know that you have quite a few organic affiliate sites that target specific brands. Do you use brands in domain names? How do you get around the trademark issue?

Jeff E.
Greeley, CO

–

My Answer: The politically correct answer is, DO NOT use TM in domain names. Have I done it? Yes… but I would encourage you to NEVER do it as it is likely that you get some “cease and desist” letters in the mail (and email) and potentially get into some legal trouble.

So how do I get around not using domain names?

Well, you just have to be really clever and find ways to sneak your way around it… or just use Google’s External Keyword Tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal). Once you find a product you want to promote, plug it into Google’s EKT and check off the “use synonyms” check box.

It will pull-up related terms for the product that you can use instead of the trademarked name.

Let me give you an example:

Say you want to promote the Amazon Kindle. You can’t use Amazon or Kindle in the domain (you’re sure to get a cease and desist), and I don’t think you can bid for the terms with PPC.

But if you plug the words “Amazon Kindle” into the Google EKT, you get:

- electronic book reader
- ebook reader
- ebook reader device
- portable ebook reader

and so on…

So, if you’re going to be building a site around this you can start doing some competition research either manually or using your favorite keyword tool to see if it is worthwhile going after.

Hope this helps.
