Google just released a brand new ‘eBook’ (yes, you read that right) called “ZMOT – Winning the Zero Moment of Truth”. The book is written by Jim Lecinski,  the “Managing Director of US Sales & Service” for Google.

ZMOT refers to the “online decision making moment” by the consumer. The critical moment when it turns someone from a “researcher” into a “buyer” (the exact moment in time when they make the decision to buy the product or service).

Here are two interesting fact from Google’s research: a customer will use over 10 sources of information (10.7 actually) before making a purchasing decision; 84% of Americans who purchase products and services online engage in a ZMOT decision.

This book is filled with interesting facts and ideas regarding ZMOT, and since it comes at the price of FREE I recommend you pick it up and read it. It’s actually a pretty good read and fun to hear things “straight from the horses mouth” so to speak.

How cool would it be to take an inside look of the lives of some of the more successful internet entrepreneurs? I’ve always envisioned a “reality show” or at the very least a documentary of the life of an internet marketer and how “cool” that would be.

Well… it’s being done.

I read the emails, I watched the videos… I bought the course and went to the seminar…

So what did I really learn from Frank Kern’s Mass Control? What were my take-aways?

I don’t know if you paid attention to the launch… but during the whole launch sequence, Frank Kern became my friend. Not in a literal sense, but that’s how I felt. He is just like one of the dudes I hang out with… you know, one of the guys. I don’t want to sound weird or like a stalker, but his personality really resonated with me and he was like my new best friend… And watching the hordes of people at the Mass Control seminar, I think they pretty much felt the same way. This just showed me what an excellent marketer Frank Kern really is. I mean, come on… you don’t really think it was all by accident do you?

Of course not, he orchestrated this emotion. He wanted us to feel this way… (Don’t get me wrong, I truly believe his online personality is close to his "real" personality and that he’s being genuine…)

And to me, this is what Mass Control is all about.

Here are some other practical things I learned from Mass Control (in the simplest of terms):

1. Create a list. (He even created two free videos on this topic).

2. Don’t be like the next guy. Be different and give excellent value.

3. Use mutliple modalities to connect with your audience – e.g. audio, email, reports, video…

4. Create a "Plan of Attack" – the way you release content, email sequences, structure offers etc.

5. Create your online persona – he talked about this in one of the free videos as well.

6. Learn to tell stories – create storylines around your online identity in order to relate with the crowd

7. Don’t chase the outcome… but capture the feeling / emotion of what your audience wants to bond with them

That’s all… in a nutshell.

Obviously Frank shared some really weird – evil – mind bending – voodoo type of stuff as well, that I won’t get into here.

By the way, if you were one of those guys that turned your nose up to his freebies because they were free, you are missing the opportunity to learn the light version of Mass Control. Seriously, if you paid attention to some of this free content as well as his email sequence, you would have seen and experienced what Mass Control is all about. (By the way, it’s not too late to get the freebies, they’re still available on his blog…)

On occassion people ask me:

I don’t think I’m terribly smart nor successful (just ahead of some on the learning curve), so I don’t consider myself to have the experience to dish out a ton of great "success tips".

But, there are 2 Super Simple rules that I live by that I often tell people:

1. Find out what successful entrepreneurs do, and do what they do.
2. And conversely, see what unsuccessful marketers do online and AVOID doing what they do.

I can just hear it…

Sorry, that’s all I’ve got. No magic formula…

Why would you want to re-invent the wheel?

Anyway, what’s my point, you ask?

Simply that we all need to stop on occasion and think about these two things.

If you are truly interested in becoming successful online, I recommend that everybody do a simple exercise…

You can do this by:

• simply asking them questions (if they are approachable);
• paying attention to their marketing, instead of deleting their emails or hitting the "unsubscribe";
• reading what they have to say on their blogs and/or on forums;
• actually purchasing some of their stuff (and becoming a part of their post-sale marketing funnel);
• go to seminars…
• the list is endless. 

By the way, you could do similar things with any field or endeavor…

Unfortunately most people will never do this, and be stuck in a "rut" forever… finding problems and people to blame…
