Hub Pages Case Study - Appear On The First Page of Google
This is just a quick case study on using Hub Pages, and how I got my keyword phrase to appear on the first page of Google in 3 days.
You know, I was just messing around with a few things the other day and managed to get on the first page of Google (a #10 spot) for the term: Project Quick Cash Reviews (this is as pf Dec. 5th, 6pm PST) and also appear as #12 (page 2) for Project Quick Cash Review.
Here’s a screenshot taken this evening (you’ll see my hub called Project Quick Cash Reviews at the bottom):
Granted, there’s hardly any competition or searches for this phrase… but it illustrates how you can get some free traffic without putting in a ton of "sweat equity" and get some extra clicks to your affiliate page or product.
This required about 15 minutes of work… and it took Google 3 days to rank it (as far as I can tell).
So, what did I do?
1. Create a new account of hubpages using your search term, in this case: projectquickcash. However, this name was taken, so I used projectquickcash1.
2. Create a hub using:
- keyword phrase in the title - for this hub I used "project quick cash"
- keyword phrase in the hub address - in this case it is: Project-Quick-Cash-Reviews
- Use Relevant Tags - here I used the keyword phrase as well as related keywords, which in this case were: Project Quick Cash Reviews, Alok Jain, Alok Jain’s Project Quick Cash (and a couple of more)
- Use several text blocks - break up your article to be used in multiple text blocks.
3. I linked to my Project Quick Cash Review page on this blog within the content
4. I linked to it from one of my blogs for 24 hours (to get it indexed).
5. I pinged my Hub using Pingomatic.com
That’s about it.
By the way, if you are curious, here’s my project quick cash reviews hub at hubpages.
I should mention that I rarely use HubPages, particularly as part of my Web 2.0 linking strategy (using Web 2.0 as a mini net for my money sites) as… so this is an eye-opener for me.
By the way, if you are competing for a competitive keyword you will need to create some backlinks to your hub (I would recommend writing a few articles to point to your hub) and social bookmarking the hub.
However, as a strategy to get ranked in the Search Engines for long tail keywords that appear on the first page of Google (in particular) and link directly to an affiliate page could be a decent way to get some free exposure… which hopefully translates into some sales.
In any event, I got a bit of traffic to my blog from this… so I guess it was worth the effort.

It’s funny… About 2 hours after I posted this blog post my hubpage all of a sudden was nowhere to be seen…
I did get quite a few people reading the article, which could have prompted this… (they got motivated and bumped me off), but more likely it happened due to me changing the content on the hub a bit (as part of another experimentation.
I’ll be curious to see if it re-appears tomorrow.

Hi Steven
I have found that when i look at the referrers for some of my websites, that even if it is very few hours since i recieved a visitor via Google, when i go to the referring page i can be completely out again, i think they bump up new pages, but only for a short while…
I’ve found this to happen a lot of the time, first i get bumped up high, and then i find my natural place…

I think Michael Campbell has a whole lot of information about using a mini-net. I was under the impression that it was as effective any more. What are your thoughts?

Steven @ 3:50 am:
Hi Joe!
Thanks for visiting my blog.
MiniNets still work. Albeit a bit differently than what Mr. Campbell describes in his MiniNet ebooks (which are great by the way).
These days MiniNets are created through Web 2.0 properties, which allows you to leverage their “ranking power” to drive great amounts of traffic to your “money sites”.
All the best,
Steven
P.S. For what it’s worth, Mr. Campbell’s ebooks on MiniNet creation had a HUGE impact on my business… and are still of value (if you think “outside of the box”).

I will like to agree with Steven and still comment on the fact that MiniNets still work, and they work very well as a matter of fact.
Just like Steven mentioned, I create multiple web 2.0 properties from various web 2.0 sites. I then link all of those properties in a way where I create my own mini network that builds link power to my web 2.0 content pages.
But mininets do provide a means for you to boost your rankings in the search engine, but you must do it right.
