You know, there’s been a lot of talk on various forums about some of the changes happening over at EzineArticles.com and how it will affect Article Marketers or Bum Marketers as they are also called.
If you’re not familiar with what Chris Knight is looking for in new articles, read this post by Chris: http://blog.ezinearticles.com/2009/10/from-my-desk-to-yours-3.html
He also sent out an email today where he said:
Get this: Over 142,000 articles are currently in “Problem Status.” Of those, 41% are under 399 words. Compare that to those that are over 750+ words which account for 1-2% of the total. That means you can significantly increase your chances of having your article accepted purely by increasing your word count to the 400+ range. Watch for a full blog post this week with the details on this internal stats study.
While I for one think it’s a good thing that Chris is increasing the quality standard of the articles, many think it’s the “death of Bum Marketing” and EzineArticles.com as we know it.
I wouldn’t necessarily go that far since there are several quality options available for article marketers. Travis, Mr. Bum Marketing himself, created a video addressing this and now recommend ArticleBase.com as an option:
ArticleBase is certainly a decent option as they have an Alexa rank of 589, which to my knowledge is the 2nd highest ranking of the article directories (with EzineArticles swooping in at #124). ArticleBase.com’s rankings will probably increase as more and more bum marketers make a switch over and start promoting their articles (in other words adding a ton of additional inbound links to ArticleBase.com).
Just to give you and idea of where EzineArticles.com and ArticleBase.com rank in comparison to some of the other popular Blog and Article platforms, here’s a current list (the numbers refer to Alexa.com ranking):
7. Blogger.com
18. WordPress.com
76. Livejournal.com
124. EzineArticles.com
272. Hubpages.com
304. Squidoo.com
589. ArticleBase.com (ArticlesBase.com)
607. Xanga.com
1050. Weebly.com
1271. Vox.com
1471. Buzzle.com
1877. GoArticles.com
3439. ArticleAlley.com
3763. ArticleDashboard.com
So, if you haven’t used Blogging platforms for your article marketing, perhaps it’s time to take another look?
Have fun!

Thanks for the tip. I am a newbie and this video is like Gold!!!
Interesting take on the article publishing business. I’ve always looked at EzineArticles as the more stand-up publisher. The other one you mention seems to have more crap on it.
I understand posting to get back links, and automation to grab the posts for your blog.
Hopefully you can do two things at once. Write excellent content and post to a publisher that sweeps the peanut shells off the floor several times a day.
I think Chris Knight runs a clean operation and I enjoy being part of it.

Great blog on article marketing. Although ezineArticles has a lot of “google juice” it can sometimes be frustrating trying to jump through their loops. I have been caught out many times with them myself!I use Article Base myself, as well as buzzle.com (buzzle will not approve articles if they are published elsewhere first). It’s a good idea to repost on a number of article sites.
I don’t know why anyone would think it’s the death of article marketing unless they are in the habit of submitting low quality articles.
For as long as I’ve dealt with them Ezinearticles have always been kind of a pain but the results they offer are worth it. We all know that we have to play by the site owner’s rules and the fact that the rules may change just comes with the territory.
My suggestion is to submit to Ezine first and if they have a problem with your article move on to another site. There’s no use wasting your time when there are valid alternative article directories.
What im going to do is try and put up two articles, same or very simular titles and same word count and keyword density put one on eza the other on articlebase, im interested to see which one shows up in google first? i will use google alerts . Thanks for the post Steven.
While the Google Rank of ArticleBase is impressive, it isn’t the only equation in deciding where to publish your articles. While I absolutely would put it on my “list” of directories, I would say that ezinearticles still makes the #1 spot because of the QUALITY of traffic that visits the site. They republish. Syndicate. Refer to a friend. Comment on articles. Its a site that has more higher quality interaction overall. Just PR rank isn’t enough.
Thank you very much for sharing. Your information always proves to be useful. I think your post is suitable for everyone, who is interested in valuable resources . I will keep following your posts.

I’m with Marie on this. EZA has can be a pain but I’ve had good rankings with it. There are tons of other quality directories out there also. Don’t limit yourself to that.
I have never had an article bumped from Ezine articles so I don’t see what the problem is. If the quality is raised Google will start appreciating it more again as it has definetly lost a bit of Google love over the last 12 months.
ezines is a problem in and of itself. It is one thing to ask for quality contect get posted to you site for free. But to be in a place in there business where they think you can put such restrictions on the contect is just silly. I for one think articlebase in the only game and ranks better in google now days anyway.
Let ezines die. It’s life is over anyway…
Ezinearticles has gone to crap. Just look at the horrid amount of ads they smeared around the articles now. On top of the content being so watered down with garbage, I think it’s a victim of it’s own success. While once upon a time, it gave great back traffic, the odds of your articles being seen are lower and lower. Innovation on the site seems to have come to a trickle. I agree, let it die.
It’s not stronger standards at EzineArticles that have caused the death of bum marketing, it’s the death of the free keyword tools. Overture is gone, free Wordtracker is severely limited, and Google’s Keyword Tool was never designed for finding “long tail” phrases (it is for adding lots of short keywords to an Adwords campaign). Forget about chasing the ever-elusive “high search, low competition’ phrases. Focus instead on writing lots of quality articles on topics you know about.
I think as in everything in life, if you produce junk it catches up with you. Articles are a great resource, but if you just put out brainless articles, it doesn’t benefit anyone.
Yes I agree to that. Good article is really important. I myself always search for good information when I want to know about something. so it’s the same as anybody else. But to write a good article, we have to do some research too. Actually the information is just pass around especially. Although people write something in their own words, somehow they also learn it from someone else.
They banned me awhile ago because of an issue we had with a particular article. They didn’t like my comment, after they disapproved me for the third time, soooo, they banned me. I told them good riddance, and that they would fall, if they kept doing business the way they were.
Well, I guess their day, is knocking on their door. To bad, they deserve it, the greed glands are choking them out of the contest. I’ve had several 1st page ranking articles from EZA. Anyway, they did me a favor, been using Articles Base since. AB has me approved and on the 1st page of the big “G” in 24hrs or less. What goes around ,comes around.
