Top 23 "Do Follow" Social Bookmarking Sites

Many people misunderstand the purpose of social bookmarking (from a niche marketing perspective) and think you get A TON of traffic by bookmarking all their pages…

In my opinion it's a myth.

However, it does serve a very important purpose. Getting backlinks to your sites. Unfortunately Google does not count all backlinks because of the "no follow" rule. So, if you want your link to "count" (in Google) you want to spend your time setting up bookmarks with the sites that actually give you some "link love".

So, here's a list of the Top 23 "Do Follow" Social Bookmarking Sites (by PageRank) that I came across that you can use for Social Linking purposes:

1. Furl - PR7
2. Backflip - PR6
3. Bibsonomy - PR6
4. LinkaGoGo - PR6
5. Mister-Wong - PR6
6. Raw Sugar - PR6
7. Spurl - PR6
8. Buddy Marks - PR5
9. Jumptags - PR5
10. MyJeeves / Ask - PR5
11. MyLinkVault - PR5
12. Xilnus - PR5
13. A1 Webmarks - PR4
14. Bookmark Tracker - PR4
15. Connectedy - PR4
16. Diigo - PR4
17. OYAX - PR4
18. MyVmarks - PR4
19. TeDigo - PR4
20. ez4u - PR3
21. MyPIP - PR3
22. SyncOne - PR3
23. Yattle - PR2

If I'm missing any or am mistaken, please let me know in the comment section below!

7 Things I Learned From Mass Control

I read the emails, I watched the videos… I bought the course and went to the seminar…

So what did I really learn from Frank Kern's Mass Control? What were my take-aways?

Frank Kern and I

I don't know if you paid attention to the launch… but during the whole launch sequence, Frank Kern became my friend. Not in a literal sense, but that's how I felt. He is just like one of the dudes I hang out with… you know, one of the guys. I don't want to sound weird or like a stalker, but his personality really resonated with me and he was like my new best friend… And watching the hordes of people at the Mass Control seminar, I think they pretty much felt the same way. This just showed me what an excellent marketer Frank Kern really is. I mean, come on… you don't really think it was all by accident do you?

Of course not, he orchestrated this emotion. He wanted us to feel this way… (Don't get me wrong, I truly believe his online personality is close to his "real" personality and that he's being genuine…)

And to me, this is what Mass Control is all about.

Here are some other practical things I learned from Mass Control (in the simplest of terms):

1. Create a list. (He even created two free videos on this topic).

2. Don't be like the next guy. Be different and give excellent value.

3. Use mutliple modalities to connect with your audience - e.g. audio, email, reports, video…

4. Create a "Plan of Attack" - the way you release content, email sequences, structure offers etc.

5. Create your online persona - he talked about this in one of the free videos as well.

6. Learn to tell stories - create storylines around your online identity in order to relate with the crowd

7. Don't chase the outcome… but capture the feeling / emotion of what your audience wants to bond with them

That's all… in a nutshell.

Obviously Frank shared some really weird - evil - mind bending - voodoo type of stuff as well, that I won't get into here.

By the way, if you were one of those guys that turned your nose up to his freebies because they were free, you are missing the opportunity to learn the light version of Mass Control. Seriously, if you paid attention to some of this free content as well as his email sequence, you would have seen and experienced what Mass Control is all about. (By the way, it's not too late to get the freebies, they're still available on his blog…)

To your success,

My #1 Piece Of Advice…

On occassion people ask me:

'Steven, what's the #1 advice you can give me to be successful in IM?'

I don't think I'm terribly smart nor successful (just ahead of some on the learning curve), so I don't consider myself to have the experience to dish out a ton of great "success tips".

But, there are 2 Super Simple rules that I live by that I often tell people:

  1. Find out what successful entrepreneurs do, and do what they do.
  2. And conversely, see what unsuccessful marketers do online and AVOID doing what they do.

I can just hear it…

'Steven, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard…'

Sorry, that's all I've got. No magic formula…

Why would you want to re-invent the wheel?

Anyway, what's my point, you ask?

Simply that we all need to stop on occasion and think about these two things.

If you are truly interested in becoming successful online, I recommend that everybody do a simple exercise…

"Sit down and study similarities of successful online marketers"

You can do this by:

  • simply asking them questions (if they are approachable);
  • paying attention to their marketing, instead of deleting their emails or hitting the "unsubscribe";
  • reading what they have to say on their blogs and/or on forums;
  • actually purchasing some of their stuff (and becoming a part of their post-sale marketing funnel);
  • go to seminars…
  • the list is endless.

By the way, you could do similar things with any field or endeavor…

Unfortunately most people will never do this, and be stuck in a "rut" forever… finding problems and people to blame…

Just my $0.02,

Dominating the Search Engines with Social Media Networks

With the advent of Stompernet's SMARTS program, Howie Schwartz's Conversation Domination and Jack Humphrey's Authority Black Book, leveraging the power of Web 2.0 / Social Media has "officially" gone mainstream.

As you know, I've used Web 2.0 for quite some time and a while back I created a "flow chart" to explain how I actually use Web 2.0 (in the 'one' forum I participate in on a regular basis). So I thought I'd share it with you as well.

Hopefully, you're already familiar with Social Media sites on some level… from free Blogging platforms such as Blogger.com and Wordpress.com (which started this "revolution"); to Social Networking Sites like MySpace and FaceBook; to Content Sharing Sites, like EzineArticles, Squidoo and HubPages, and Social Bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us, Reddit, Digg, Propeller, Stumbleupon etc. (some would argue that Digg, Propeller, Stumbleupon and similar sites are Social Voting sites).

So, what's the big deal about social media?

I personally think that the main benefit to these properties is that they contribute to "organic" traffic that is not dependent on Search Engine Results. In addition, you also get to take advantage of the sites' authority, which means more search engine traffic and more backlinks to your site (depending on whether they use "dofollow" or not). In other words, there are two parts to the Social Media equation: Social Media Traffic Generation and Social Media Linking.

So, you might be wondering, what's the advantage of using sites like Blogger, Hubpages, Squidoo and Wordpress.com?

All of these are considered authority sites and can rank very well in the search engines provided you build them "properly" and more importantly add some new content to them on a "regular" basis.

In terms of Blogger, they have a lot of pull with Google Blog Search as well as organic search engines and if you create the "right" type of content, you can rank on the first page of Google almost immediately (depending on competition of course). It is also very user friendly in terms of setup, ad integration (particularly Adsense), and is quite easy to "tweak". The downside of building blogs with Blogger is that Blogger controls your site… and they are often very "delete" happy (I've had a couple of dozen blogs deleted by them…).

As for Wordpress.com… they are similar to Blogger in that you host your blog with them (except they don't in my experience have the habit of deleting blogs like Blogger). Their interface is easy to use and ranks well in the search engines. The upside of Wordpress is that they have an active user community that likes to read other people's blogs… and you can get quite a bit of free traffic just from using "tags" in your posts. However, they are not very user friendly with Ad integration and if you're not careful, you could be in breach of their TOS.

Which one do I start with, and is one better than another?

Squidoo and Hubpages can both drive quite a bit of traffic and they both use "do follow" in their links, which means you can leverage these sites to drive traffic to your "money site(s)" much in the same way you would use EzineArticles (or other article directories). The pages you build on these properties are also better suited for a more narrow niche (or product), rather than broad niches.

Blogger and Wordpress.com are "traditional" blogs and is a great resource for posting either snippets of articles from your money sites, or independent articles with anchor text links embedded in the article pointing to a particular page on your money site.

I generally use all of these properties to support my main money site, whether it's an opt-in page, sales page, content site…

There are obviously no "rules" as to how you use leverage Web 2.0. I personally use them to build a "mini net" of properties to "dominate" a niche term… and funnel traffic and link power to my money sites. So, you could potentially set up something like this:

Web20FlowChart1[1].jpg

NOTE: This is just an illustration of how you can setup one type of a mini net and the sites listed are just some of the sites I may use.

As you can see, the chart flows from the "less" important web 2.0 properties down to Blogger / Wordpress.

The most important thing to know is that you should not get stuck in a pattern. In other words, you can for instance switch the positions of Blogger / Wordpress with Squidoo / Hubpages or other "authority sites" and gain similar (or better results).

Let's talk about some of the biggest mistakes people make when creating these networks:

  1. Try to focus on too many keyword phrases at once
  2. Give up after creating one blog /lens / hub for one topic
  3. Not bookmarking ALL content (be sure to use different bookmarking sites for different sites)
  4. Trying to use just ONE account for bookmarking / blog creation (I would personally recommend that you open multiple accounts, ten or preferably more, with each service to avoid footprints and patterns).
  5. Using reciprocal links between different properties

One of the biggest "secrets" to success with this tactics, is to actually create multiple pages spread across you network for just ONE long-tail keyword phrase. In other words, the whole network above should be for ONE phrase. Then you rinse and repeat for the next keyword phrase.

Also, learn to use and publish your RSS feeds. This will save you A LOT of time when updating your web 2.0 properties.

I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on the topic…

To your success,

Mass Control Seminar - I'm Off To See The Wizard

So, I'm heading down to San Diego this afternoon to attend Frank Kern's Mass Control Seminar in San Diego.

The event is held at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego, which is sweet… but being my usual self I managed to procrastinate myself to stay over at the Hilton instead… <darn it!>

The seminar should be kick-a** excellent with speakers like Eban Pagan, Jeff Walker, John Carlton and others. Definitely looking forward to hanging out down there and network with fellow IMers.

Speaking of Frank Kern, hopefully you watched his excellent videos over on his blog. These videos are from his pre-launch for Mass Control (in case you didn't know) and should be paid attention to. I know a lot of people gloss over these videos because of hype, but you're missing out big time if you don't watch these.

There were three videos I thought really stood out that you should pay particular attention to, they are:

Is this Mind Control - since this is where he talks about one of the important aspects of Mass Control, namely the use of "identities". Here he reveals three common character types: The Leader, The Adventurer and The Reporter / Evangelist. You should DEFINITELY WATCH THIS!

List Getting Video Part 1 - Teaching you the basics of how to build a list. Good stuff!

List Getting Video Part 2 - The "technical" stuff behind list building.

Have fun!

Massive Launches - Did You Get It?

Unless you've been living under a rock or are brand new to Internet Marketing, it was a virtual impossibility to NOT hear about the BIG launches this year.

I'm of course referring to the Stompernet's SMARTS program; Frank Kern's Mass Control and Jeff Walker's Product Launch Formula (I'm sure there were others, but these were the ones I was paying attention to).

How To Do A Product LaunchRight after Frank Kern's lauch of Mass Control, I had a chat with some of my buddies on Skype who mentioned that they ended up unsubscribing from several lists because of all of (what they called) the 'spam' concerning the product. Around the same time I also noticed similar dialogues on various forums… where people were ticked off at all the emails they were receiving.

I personally was surprised about this response, particularly since my buddies call themselves "Internet Marketers"…

Don't get me wrong, I do get irritiated by some marketers that constantly jam my inbox full of the latest offers and NEVER give any useful or good content. I can name a couple of big name guys that do this all the time… but I still subscribe to their emails.

And generally speaking I don't mind getting stuff in my inbox… since there's a lot to learn from various marketers. You've probably even heard the advice of 'subscribing to the gurus lists to learn how they market'… So, I've taken heed to this advice and instead of hitting the "delete" button I actually file each one of their emails into different folders (generally by author name). And I consciously add myself to new lists (I must be on a few dozen lists). I also print some of the emails (that I really like) and keep them in a folder (my swipe file).

But when I was first starting out, I talked a lot of crap about the super affiliates and gurus too… I mean "HOW DARE THEY", wasting my time with all of this hype and BS.

And when I started getting these promotions, this was my thought process and what I ended up doing: (perhaps you've had a similar experience)

  • I'm just going to delete it because I can't afford it anyway…
  • This is so hypey and 'over-the-top'… then get irritated (which made my day even worse…)
  • Get pissed and hit 'delete'… I even pushed the "spam" button on some of these offers
  • If I was in a really bad mood, I wouldn't even read just ended up 'unsubscribing' from that person's list.

I mean, how STUPID could I be…

All of these promotions and messages were marketing lessons and I completely MISSED THE POINT! And I continued to miss the point, until an Internet Marketer who I admired told me to: "SNAP OUT OF IT!"

So, after getting raked over hot coals by my "mentor", I decided for a…

PARADIGM SHIFT

Unfortuately it wasn't that easy… I did what everybody was telling me to do: "Save the emails and save the sales pages"… and even though I kept saving all of these I really didn't understand what I was supposed to do with them, except for using them as a "swipe file".

And to be honest, it probably took me a good year before I started to "get it" and understand what to actually do with all of this stuff.

Let me give you some examples of what I noticed from the most recent launches. For instance, did you notice that all of the launches:

  • used different modalities to get to their audience (audio, video, PDF reports, software)…
  • used video squeeze pages…
  • used the reverse squeeze page model (giving away a lot of content on the front end)…
  • used blogs to share their content…
  • used live video footage (of themselves)…
  • used a laid back approach (informal presentations)
  • had all their affiliates email their lists in unison (hence it was impossible for us NOT to notice their launch)

These are some of the more obvious parallells between the product launches. And since they all know each other they use similar strategies… but you have to wonder, "why would they all use the same strategies"?

Obviously… because they work.

When I started to look at all of these launches and messages in this way, I paid attention even when I couldn't afford the products. Because I was essentially getting "free lessons" by studying these launches.

My question to you is:

What Did YOU Notice?

Just to help you along with the process, here are some of the other things that I paid attention to:

  • Do they offer case studies?
  • Is there a pattern in the way their emails are sent, and the language used?
  • What about the affiliates?
  • How do they communicate with you?
  • Do they use "pre-sell" pages? (if so, how are they structured?)
  • Do they link directly to the product pages?
  • How are the "super affiliates" structuring their bonus offers?
  • And on and on…

You could break down each and every marketing piece this way… which I don't do… but I do take the time to do this with the BIG launches. And my feeling is that anyone who wants to build a profitable Internet Marketing business ought to:

PAY ATTENTION!

And more importantly, watch what they're doing and emulate them… identify their strategies and tactics and implement some of it into their business. I've taken many of the lessons and implemented them on a much much smaller scale to some of my niches. And I can tell you that many of these techniques work even better in a non-IM niche… (and it doesn't have to be a "launch").

By the way, I hope you all took the time to watch the freebie videos that were given in these launches. There's a lot of great infomation in there that you can implement into your business right away!

And please share any of the takeaways you've had from watching these launches below (in the comments).

To your success,

Did You Say Article Marketing?

Most of the readers of this blog are probably either familiar with or have done some bum marketing (or article marketing).

When I first created this site I had a whole video series on Article Marketing here… but since then I've removed them in favor of this blog. I had every intention to put these videos back on the site, but never quite got around to it…

Then a friend of mine came up with a more "clever" idea.

She said:

"Steven… Instead of confusing these article marketing videos with every other topic that you cover on your blog, why not take the time to create a separate site dedicated to bum marketing?"

So I did… (Thanks, Liz!)

Over the past few weeks I've been working extremely hard on several new projects. And the first of these projects was this site. It has finally come to fruition (so to speak)… And I've named it: Article Marketing Reports.

Bum Marketing

This site is fully dedicated to Article Marketing, or more specifically Direct-to-Affiliate Article Marketing or Bum Marketing, and is a 100% free resource for anyone to take advantage of. In other words, you can watch all of the video tutorials there completely free of charge.

It is set up in a "blog style", so you can comment and ask questions below each of the videos.

In any event, I hope you take advantage of the site.

To our success,

Wow… It's been crazy

Hi there…

It's been a while since I've put content on my blog…

I've got a ton of email from concerned readers and I must apologize to each and every one of you.

I was going to come up with a lame excuse… but to be honest, I just couldn't come up with any.

I've just been super busy with a few major projects that have pretty much "eaten me alive".

Not to mention the fact that we have a new baby in the house!

But, do not fear!

Lot's of super cool stuff in the works and I'll be letting you in on the secret shortly…

All the best,
